Shelf Life and Storage of Nepheline and Feldspar Products

How long can you store mineral powder? Storage conditions, shelf life, and quali...

Nepheline syenite and feldspar powders are chemically inert inorganic materials β€” they do not undergo chemical degradation over time.

Technical Details

In proper storage conditions, the shelf life is essentially indefinite from a chemical standpoint. However, physical degradation can occur: moisture absorption leading to caking (hard lumps form when surface moisture acts as a binding agent between particles); compaction from stacking pressure (bottom bags in a tall stack may compact into hard blocks); and contamination from insects, rodents, or environmental dust in poor storage facilities. Best practices for maintaining quality: store in enclosed, dry warehouse with roof protection from rain; maintain off-floor storage using pallets; limit stack height to 3 layers for jumbo bags, 8-10 layers for 50kg bags; practice FIFO (first in, first out) inventory rotation; and for storage beyond 12 months, periodically check for moisture and caking. If caking occurs, the powder can usually be restored by breaking the lumps and re-screening β€” the chemical composition is unaffected. Our products are supplied with production date on each bag for traceability and FIFO management..
