Beyond ceramics and glass, nepheline syenite serves as a high-performance functional filler in architectural paints, industrial coatings, and specialty finishes.
Application Overview
Unlike inert fillers (calcium carbonate, talc) that simply reduce cost per liter, nepheline syenite actively improves coating performance through its combination of hardness (Mohs 6-6.5), low oil absorption, controlled particle shape, chemical inertness, and optimal refractive index. In architectural paint, nepheline syenite filler improves scrub resistance (the ability to withstand repeated cleaning without wearing through the paint film), hiding power (due to its refractive index being closer to titanium dioxide than cheaper fillers), and stain resistance. These functional improvements justify a price premium over calcium carbonate while reducing the amount of expensive TiO2 pigment needed. Our nepheline powder grades can be ground to the specific particle size distribution required for paint applications β contact us to discuss your filler specifications..
