The glass industry is the second-largest consumer of nepheline syenite globally. It serves as a cost-effective source of alumina and alkali in glass batch formulations for containers, flat glass, and fiberglass β partially replacing expensive soda ash while improving glass strength.
Applications
Container glass (bottles, jars), flat glass (windows, automotive), fiberglass (insulation, reinforcement), and specialty glass all benefit. Nepheline provides AlβOβ for chemical durability, NaβO and KβO as flux (reducing soda ash), and SiOβ as the primary glass-former β with no free silica.

Economic Benefits
Replacing a portion of soda ash with nepheline reduces raw material costs by 5-10% while improving glass quality. Energy savings come from lower melting point and improved batch homogeneity.
